I SUGGERIMENTI BIOLOGICI DELLO SCIENZIATO FERRARA
ovvero della mistica e della antroplogia nella cultura conservativa italiana moderna.

Al direttore de Il Foglio Giuliano Ferrara che in una risposta ad un suo lettore afferma che "la famiglia l’ha inventata la civiltà, su suggerimento biologico del creatore".
Punto primo: da che si pensi arbitrariamente che il suggerimento sia stato del creatore rende mistica e non civile la legge degli uomini che se ne fa discendere.
Punto secondo: casomai il suggerimento biologico è derivato dalla posizione eretta, comoda da adulti ma lenta da acquisire da giovanissimi, la quale ha reso necessario per gli uomini (come dimostrato dall'antropologia) accudire e difendere i propri piccoli per un tempo maggiore che nelle altre specie.
Punto terzo: se il suggerimento è biologico e del creatore, la civiltà non può aver "inventato" un bel nulla, ma vuole solo dire che prima di ascoltare il suggerimento gli uomini stavano disubbidendo.
Punto quarto: a milioni di specie viventi questo suggerimento non deve essere arrivato, tanto che le mantidi religiose decapitano il consorte, e quasi tutti i viventi che funzionano con la nostra stessa biologia e che sono suddivisi in maschi e femmine non sono monogami; il che non potrebbe che voler dire che disattendere questo suggerimento così biologicamente ambiguo non è peccato.

In sintesi: per il creatore tanto attento agli uomini di cui si parla o siamo pura biologia, o siamo civiltà, non possiamo essere un mix arbitrario e di comodo delle due. Per esempio, un tempo la nostra biologia ci suggeriva di cibarci di bacche e non certo di cacciare e cuocere carni animali, eppure nessuno afferma mai che il creatore ci dannerà per il nostro essere carnivori. Eppure a quel suggerimento biologico stiamo evidentemente disubbidendo. Ci piacerebbe conoscere la regola per poter distingure, tra i suggerimenti biologici, quali sono del creatore e quali no.

or, about mystics and anthropolgy in contemporary Italian conservativism.


To the Director of the Italian national newspaper "Il Foglio", Giuliano Ferrara, who in response to a letter from a reader says that "family was invented by civilization, following a biological suggestion by the creator".

My points: First of all, to arbitrarily believe that such suggestion came from the creator renders the law that descends from it mystic rather than civil.

Next, indeed the biological suggestion came from our acquiring an erect position - an attitude slow to master during infancy - which rendered mandatory for humans (as demonstrated by anthropology) to care for and defend their children for a lapse of time longer than for other species.

Furthermore, if the suggestion is both biologically motivated and coming from the creator, it follows that our civilization did not "invent" anything new; most that can be said in this regard is that humans before lived in disgrace.

Finally, it appears that to millions of other species this same suggestion must have not gone through, so much so that the praying mantises behead their male partners, while almost all the living creatures who share our same biology - and are divided into males and females - are not strictly monogamous. This leads to the conclusion that such biologically motivated suggestion is ambiguous to say the least.

To summarize. For the much talked about creator that so much cares about humans either we are pure biology, or we are civilization, but we cannot be an arbitrary mixture of the two that changes according to convenience. For example, once upon a time our biology surely did suggest to us to eat berries and not to hunt and cook animals and their meats, nevertheless nearly nobody today affirms that the creator will let us burn in hell just because we eat meat. And yet we ARE disregarding a biological suggestion. How are we to discern between a biological suggestion that is from, and one that is NOT from the creator?
